The Missing Key
Emma was getting ready for work one morning when she suddenly realized that she couldn't find her house key.
She checked the kitchen table, her handbag, and even the pockets of yesterday's jacket. But the key was nowhere to be found.
"I'm sure I had it last night," she said to herself.
Emma started looking around the house again. She checked under the sofa, beside the bed, and near the front door. Nothing.
She was already getting late.
Then she remembered something. The previous evening, she had gone to the grocery store. When she came back home, she had put the shopping bags on the kitchen counter.
Emma quickly went to the kitchen and looked inside the bags.
There it was!
Her key was lying at the bottom of one of the bags.
Emma laughed at herself. She had spent almost twenty minutes looking everywhere, but the key had been in the kitchen the whole time.
She picked it up, locked the door, and hurried to work.
On her way, she thought, "Sometimes, we look too far for something that is actually right in front of us."
Lesson: Before looking everywhere, take a moment and think about where you last used something.
